An overview of Dihedral Angle before knowing Ramachandran plot

Abstract: Hello friends today  we will learn dihedral angle. Dihedral angle has an another name, we can say it as torsional angle. Now I will today give you a clear concept on this topic.

Before knowing Ramachandran plot you have to know this topic  very clearly.

Let's go ..❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

You know that Ramachandran plot always tell about what kind of torsional angle is ultimately fixed to what kind of secondary structure of the protein.

I have given a picture here. Please see below. 👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇

The dihedral angle Idea has originated from three dimensional space angle idea and this angle says about the protein structure.

Now please look at the picture. 😊
The peptide bond has shown in figure of blue line.

Hear the nitrogen also carry a lone pair of electron and for the resonance property the lone pair act as bond between carbon and nitrogen. So the peptide bond shows a double bond character(partially double bonded). for this type of double bond or partially character of double bond of the peptide chain has become a reason for not allowing itself to rotate around the bond. show the amino acid and other molecules can not rotate around this bond.

English picture you can find to bond one is nitrogen and c  Alpha bond and other is c Alpha and c bond.

The first bond called phi bond and another is called psi bond.

Let's see some examples ...

Look in this picture. The distance between two hydrogen show that they linked and  the distance is enough to show its geometry.

In this picture you can see that here the distance is not enough to show its geometry . To know about the water molecule geometry, two component are important .

The components are  distance and angle.

The structure contents four different points.
Just imagine that two planes and the angle between this type of two 3D plane which is called dihedral angle.

Imaging the plane  as the four different points are here.
So the rotation is possible due to presence of single bond but peptide bond shows partially double bonded in nature so it cannot rotate.

So this angles have an important role to make secondary structure of protein, if the rotation is possible then it will form various protein structures specially the secondary protein structure as Alpha helix or beta sheet or other secondary structure.
